At the beginning of 2020, the band will be back with their much-awaited second album, released on the emblematic Impulse label!
Over the past five years, Shabaka Hutchings have established themselves as a central figure on the London jazz scene, which is experiencing its greatest creative renaissance since the breakthroughs of Joe Harriott and Evan Parker in the 1960s. Endowed with a creative spirit and a refreshing openness, Hutchings plays in many bands, including the spiritual and dynamic Shabaka & The Ancestors.
Formed in 2016, Shabaka & The Ancestors brought him together with a group of South African jazz musicians to produce the album "Wisdom of Elders", recorded in a single day. The group drew on its South African lineage - heroes like Zim Ngquwana and Bheki Mseleku - to bring its own perception of American jazz, an inspiration that can be found in Hutchings' own compositions.
"We Are Sent Here By History" is the group's second album, an album that is very much in keeping with African and Afro-Caribbean traditions. Read as a real story whose songs are linked to each other, the album's subject matter invites reflection on a human condition in agony: 'There isn't any rest, there isn't any peace'.
