NEW ALBUM (JUNE 2023) : AS IS

French-Serbian jazz pianist Bojan Zulfikarpasic - or Bojan Z - is releasing As Is, a solo recording uncovering in a snapshot his rich musical language and broad spectrum of influences.

If Bojan was a tree, you could imagine a large trunk with roots in every country in the world. Simultaneously taking root and growing, claiming both tradition and openness.

One could mention his remarkable and singular mastery of rhythms, so particular to his Balkan influences (among others), and his exceptional pianistic skills, giving the impression that the keyboard is an extension of himself : Bojan is one with the instrument.

In his first solo album since Soul Shelter (2012) and Solobsession (2001), Bojan Z takes us someplace beyond the horizon, not far from the foot of a rainbow.  Oscillating between compositions and standards, we hear both his bold creative energy and his mastery of melodies.

This recording is more than just piano. Whistles sound like a breath, recalling his connection to space, and the birdsong whose language he knows. Percussion on the wood lets us feel his pulsations, the beating of his heart and his strength.

The intimacy, depth and intensity of a single day seem to be encapsulated in the recording. "As Is" is just a single day... and a masterpiece.
