A tribute from Zawinul’s inner circle

mardi 6 décembre 2016

2017 will mark the 10th anniversary of the passing of a jazz giant, the keyboard player Joe Zawinul. The accordionist Vincent Peirani and his duo-saxophonist partner Emile Parisien are paying a vibrant tribute to him through the “File Under Zawinul” project.

Joe Zawinul, Austrian of Gypsy descent, became part of the legend at the end of the 60’s by relieving the electric tones of his keyboards in jazz music. Alongside Miles Davis (especially in the famous “In A Silent Way” and “Bitches Brew” sessions) and then with his own band, Weather Report, he established himself as a jazz-rock avant-gardist, nourishing his style with genre fusion and sounds experiments.

This tribute features, together with Vincent Peirani and Emile Parisien, former companions of Zawinul such as drummer Paco Séry and bassist Linley Marthe who took part to his last band The Joe Zawinul Syndicate, or the famous percussionist Mino Cinelu who joined him on Weather Report’s last albums. In addition to this prestigious casting, the band also includes the Moroccan singer and percussionist Aziz Sahmaoui - partner of Joe for more than 10 years -, the Brazilian guitarist Munir Hossn and the sound architect Tony Paeleman, on Fender Rhodes.

From Brazil to Mediterranean Sea via West Africa and eventually France, those eight musicians honor the memory of the virtuoso pianist through an ode to cultural blending and musical influences. Immediate boarding to planet Zawinul !

On tour from Summer 2017
